Attention PAN Holders, CAs, Tax Professionals & Businesses!
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued a crucial order dated 14th April 2026 specifying the new procedure and forms for making changes or corrections in PAN data. This comes under Rule 158(12) of the Income-tax Rules, 2026 read with Section 262(4) of the Income-tax Act, 2025.
Effective from 1st April 2026, PAN holders can no longer use the old correction process. Instead, two brand-new PAN Correction forms have been introduced:
- PAN CR-01: Request for Changes or Correction in PAN Data [For an Individual]
- PAN CR-02: Request for Changes or Correction in PAN Data [For Non-Individual]
The PDF formats of these forms along with detailed guidelines are provided in Annexure-I of the official order issued by the Directorate of Income-tax (Systems). The new PAN Correction forms can be submitted physically at any PAN Centre of UTIITSL or Protean eGov Technologies Limited, or online through their official websites.
This major update aligns with the new PAN and TAN data requirements introduced earlier in April 2026 and aims to streamline corrections while strengthening verification through Aadhaar, photographs, and supporting documents.
Why Has CBDT Introduced New PAN Correction Forms CR-01 and PAN CR-02?
The new Income-tax Rules, 2026, have overhauled the PAN ecosystem to improve data accuracy, reduce fraud, and ensure better integration with Aadhaar and other government databases. Earlier correction mechanisms have been replaced with these structured, category-specific forms.
Key objectives:
- Mandatory Aadhaar linkage and exact name matching
- Clear distinction between individual and non-individual applicants
- Standardized documentation and declaration process
- Faster processing through dedicated PAN service centres and online portals
The order explicitly states that all PAN corrections must now be routed through PAN CR-01 (individuals) or PAN CR-02 (companies, LLPs, firms, trusts, HUFs, etc.).

This form is designed exclusively for individuals (including minors, NRIs, and residents).

Important Guidelines for Filling PAN CR-01 (Summarised from Annexure-I):
